Has anybody ever tried to find out their ancesyors date of birth by asking the Department of Works & Pensions what proof of age was offered when it was time to draw their pension? |

Pensions have only been in existence for about 100yrs, so you wouldnt get very far back. |

If, like me, you have a seemingly insurmountable brick wall with your grandfather then it could be critical in your quest to reach back further. |

Yes, Ii think you are probably right. But after a person has been dead for more than 50 years is it really necessary to be such a closed book? |

In the 70s an original birth cert was always required if there was one. If it was lost the person had to obtain a replacement from the registrar. I doubt you would be told what you ask as Sandie says, confidentiality and Data Protection. |

MIL had a terrible time in 1963 as all she had was her baptism certificate from Belgaum, India. They eventually accepted it when they finally reealised birth certs were not issued at that time. |
