rose, its an old thread i put up ages ago and decided to go back and have another try. i have a grt granmother who was born hannah pritchard around 1850 ish. before she married in 1901 to a henry syrett, she was supposedly married to someone else from about 1870 to 1881. its the surname that was the problem and the varrious spellings. but just searching for a marriage on her maiden name, i always drew a blank.

i dont want to repeat all the info again but the surname she gave when she married 2nd time was pain covaionden, should be van covingdon. but you can see the difficulty and how it has been mispelt. i have had janey do a lot of work on this already but didnt trace the 1st husband.

i just thought i would have another look with this wild card and see if anything new turned up. thanks for asking.

You can use wildcards on Ancestry and Freebmd.

If it's a tricky surname then your best bet is to search by first name, year born and birthplace.
