Went into chemist on Saturday, to get my prescription sorted, (a few items - diabeites and antibiotics and painkillers) so had a bag full.

Left the chemist, and as I had a wait for bus - went for cuppa,
decided to check the bag of pills, and found 5 - yes 5 items - that were for another lady, in amongst my items.
There were painkillers/antidepresents and other items.
Went back to the chemist, who had realised what had happened and was asking staff how close the road i live in was to the chemist - as they were going to come and collect.
Its a good job I checked - but HOW did the chemist make the mistake????
Just think if the other ladies tablets had got into wrong hands!!!

In Boots I think they have a pharmacist who puts the items in a tray then somebody else checks. I collected prescriptions this morning and didn't see any checking going on. If they are rushed I suppose mistakes can be made, but they shouldn't be should they. I get mine and OH's at the same time and the labels on the packets did once get transposed.

How about a doctor who gives a prescription for penicillin when the notes say allergic to it ! If the antibiotic prescribed had not ended in the letters 'cillin' I would have been none the wiser !

When I worked for Boots in my youth as a dispenser all our making up and labelling was always checked. We had to check any made up by the pharmacist too. Less chance of a mistake.

With so many new medicines I wouldn't fancy the job now, we even wrote all labels by hand and had to be skilled enough to read Dr's writing ......... no computer print outs then !!!

I have had many mistakes with my scrips, and its always someone elses fault.! Luckily I check what I take. I received some thyroxin of the wrong strength once and could have been quite ill if i hadnt noticed. My trouble now is that the surgery like us to only order once a month of regular presritions, problem being that some last a month, some two months and some longer. As I have three pages of prescriptions, plus my husbands to sort, I find i forget sometimes and have to order separately.

I always check before I leave the chemist but never get extras as I pay for all of them.
Most of my mistakes are made at the doctors prescribing drugs they now longer make despite the Chemist telling them more than once. The number of times Ive been back and forth getting it sorted.

Seems to be a bit of a problem, does make you wonder if things are checked.

Island - think i phrased that wrong - if i had not been honestenough to return

Mrs Julia - had that happen to me as well - and like you noticed the cillin and said i was allergic to it

In the past I have had only some of the tablets given - say 20 instead of 40
