At the same time I got the call from Sky I was also getting calls from Orange saying that my direct debit hadn't been paid and had I changed my supplier.

Well I had just had a few weeks of problems with my bank, they had not paid direct debits and also every time I used my debit card they would double debit the amount. It turned out it was a problem with my debit card and since they issued me a new one [all different numbers etc ] I've had no problems ,it was so bad they gave me two lots of compensation as it seemed an update of their system had gone wrong.

So when this man phoned I didn't doubt it was a genuine call and only for the fact that it was tea time and I had six grandchildren harassing me I would have given him my new details,as it was I asked him to phone me the next day and am I glad I did .Later that evening when all the children had gone and it was quiet I phoned Orange and they told me no one had phoned me and they read out my details and they were all correct.

So in future I will make sure that I phone back on numbers that I know to be genuine.

I don`t blame you Mary.....I hate cold callers and get very few since having some sort of block put on them via BT a few years ago, up until then we got them every night, Double Glazing, new Kitchens you name it, always just as we sat down to eat dinner.

These people usually work on commison, so if you cut them off straightaway as you do then your actually stopping them wasting their time, to go throught their big speech and then to hear no must be very frustrating for them .

I must be just about the rudest person going lolol

On the rare occasion I do answer the phone, as soon as I hear the words "can I speak to Mrs ........ please" - I just click the phone off without saying a word. lol. No-one even gets the chance to try and sell me anything LOL.

There are many call centres all over the country selling Sky warranties... we have a few locally here in the sussex area .but they are not employed by Sky...to tell you your warranty is about to run out is there opening line........they then try to get you to buy cover there and then.

Though I don`t think what they are doing is illegal as presumably you do get cover for your sky equipment, they do mislead you by saying they are from sky...I do think a lot of these other companies are cheaper though.

I`ve just had a renewal through from Sky as our sky+ manafacturers warranty runs out next month but they want £99.00!! for a years cover.

Thats a fortune on top of the full package we already pay for.....previous to our Sky plus we had the same box, apart from one update for 14 years...so don`t think theres much point in paying out all the extra money.

We have loads of these. The funny thing is - we don't have a Sky insurance to run out!!!

I've got to the point of demanding their name and the name of the company they work for, and telling them that if they call again then I shall be 'taking action' against them. Seems to do the trick for that particular company.....until the next one comes along.

I had one of those calls a few weeks ago,I asked him why he was calling but he wouldn't say ,I said that he could be anyone BUT according to him it was ok as he was Joseph from Sky,he kept saying that he knew my name and my phone number so he was genuine !!!!.

Anyway as I normally do I refused to speak to him and wouldn't even confirm my name or any details.

I then phoned Sky and the gentleman said that if he phones again ask him to give me my name address and Sky account number, also what Sky equipment and the package I had,if he couldn't then he wasn't genuine and that he was from a call centre and would be trying to sell me insurance and Sky themselves don't do that.

I have found that whenever I speak to someone from Sky they usually have a Sottish accent and this gentleman didn't.

Had a call from aman in a call centre, which could have been a recording in the background. He told me my Skye insurance was run out. We can fix it now. he said. I said tell me by letter. We can do it now, my answer, I dont do anything like that over the phone. Oh, says he and rings off. Suspicious or what?
