could any body guide me please i am going back to my home town tomorrow and somebody suggested that i could maybe purchase time and look through the indexes to gather information of my relatives thus not having to purchase all the certificates...is this correct please help and many thanks

I dont think you can look at actual certs anywhere. The local Records Office will hold certs but you have to purchase them .

If your home town has the local records office then you may be able to look at parish records and you will see original marriage entries but you will only be able to find baptisms or burials not births or deaths so won't have all the details that certificates will give you. The marriage details post 1837 will be the same details as you get on a marriage certificate.
Even if the town doesn't have a records office the local library may have parish registers that you can search.
I suggest you look online or phone the local library to see what is available to you.
