Hi Sheila,
My tree was hijacked a couple of years ago when GR had a 'glitch' - my tree was automatically opened to this person hen I contacted him to give him some information about my dad's stepfather - who isn't on my tree!
I quickly realised what had happened , but not before the plank, in his haste, had 'assumed' where many of my ancestors came from - unfortunately he assumed wrong in many cases - which goes to show you can't believe every tree on GR either now!

Similar thread earlier today , but I think everyone knows that 'submitted' entries on the IGI are not to be relied upon, anymore than trees on Ancestry or here. If you haven't done the research and/or seen the proof NONE of it can be taken as gospel.

It doesn't worry me that people might take info from my tree, they'll need to check it because a lot of mine is vague on here ( all on paper ) but if someone wishes to add my family to theirs via a tenuous second marriage of cousins three times removed I don't mind :)

This is what happens when you show your tree to someone,it's too late to do much unless there are living relatives copied, then you can ask for their removal.

Hi Everone, I HAD a contact who put nearly every one on my family tree onto his tree(Most of them no relation to him whatsoever) I was looking at the IGI index and hes transfered it to there, As far as i know everything I put onto my tree is correct, but he doesnt know that, so IGI index cannot be relied on ! Needless to say I have deleted him from my contact list ! Sheila
