Ok so ive been researching my family history for a relatively short period of time c. 4-5 yrs now... This morning i have had an email on Ancestry for information i first put on my family tree over 3yrs ago.. It is relating to descendants of my 3-4 great grandparents one of whom was sent to Australia for being a naughty boy... this is amazing for me cant believe after all this time i can eventually get in touch with living people on this side......

Hi Mark
So pleased to hear about your success,it's great isn't it?especially when after a time you feel perhaps there'll never be any answers.

After searching for family for nearly 30 years,it wasn't until the internet and 1911 census that I finally found my Grandmother and where/when she died.
Still not sure yet what happened to Grandfather after 1911 but I suppose, like you, I'll keep on digging...

Best regards
Mau

Well I agree that you've got to 'stick at it' . because I think a lot of newcomers to this hobby probably hope to get instant results.
I was impatient when I first started, almost 30 years ago, but now I can't for the life of me fathom why I wanted to rush it, when I get so much pleasure out of searching, and even greater pleasure when I find someone, not to mention the amount of history and social history I've learned along the way!

And, by the way, even after all THAT time I still can't find a thing on one of my grandfathers. So I'm sticking at it.!!!

Hello Mau,
Same elusive grandfather? Wouldn't that be a laugh.
I've never found mine on any census, and never found a birth or death registration for him. All I have is his marriage cert to my granny and a couple of photos, oh, and the knowledge that he fathered my father.

Stick at it, I do, but it leaves me desperate at times!!!!
All the best,
K

hi.

I have been on the family for nearly 8yrs having small breaks in between due to frustration on not finding anything. yes I have learn`t to slow down as I have more chance of finding any family.

I use this as my time out and therapy and as time goes by I have learn`t a lot of history of my hometown.

Good luck
Linda.
