I'm wondering if people who sign up here forget to update profiles with new email address's? I have a number of outstanding requestswith members to swap/view trees from early on in the month. Has anyone else found this situation?
I always try to respond promptly even if there is no match but add a cheery 'good hunting'.

Hello William.

This question comes up very frequently. We think it would be an idea if the system could show when the person was last active. Presumably you have looked at your 'sent' box to see if they have read your message? If they have, the envelope will be white. If they haven't read it, the envelope will be purple

Unfortuantely, the out of date email address is only one possibility. Other's could be
Death
Illness
Holidays
No longer interested
They've 'Blocked' notifying emails from GR
Even forgotten their password!

It is worth waiting. You never know you may get a reply in several months, or even years, time. It has been known to happen!

I had a reply this week from a message I sent five years ago!

It is slightly annoying when a message is opened, but no reply is received , even if it is just to say "no connection"

William are you asking to see someone's tree? If so, that could be the problem

I would always work in this order-

Establish a connection
Swap some information
Send a copy of the Gedcom for the relevant part of the tree

Something I would never do is ask for access to someone's tree especially before confirming the relationship

To Detetctive (!), the ones I am refering to are still all purple unopended.
To Claire, I always give a reason why I want to make a connection. I feel it is in both parties interest (hopefully) and I'd like to think my line of thought would be as helpful to them as to me.
Thanks for the responses anyway.
