There are trees on ancestry with a lot of details about him including newspaper cuttings about his crime in 1889 also another in 1874. They have not got those census's either

Hi All

Can anyone offer any help as this has driven me bonkers for about four years.

I have a Joshua Pollard born Gretton, Northamptonshire circa 1836 he appears in all census 1841 to 1881.

His wife died in 1890 but it was a daughter that overseen the death of the mother.

Joshua does not appear in the 1891 or 1901 censuses so I have considered that he had died.

There is no obvious death that fits at all, he has a daughter who marries in Sheffield in 1902 who states on her wedding licence that her father was dead.

Joshua also had a son who married in Sheffield in 1910 who also declared his father dead.

Now the 1911 census is out guess whos alive & well, yep Joshua Pollard aged 74 a domestic gardener living with another son in Edmondthorpe, Leicestershire.

Armed with that info I have trawled BMD until the end of WW2 when he would have been about 106 & cannot find his death at all.

There is no evidence that he went abroad, the son he was living with did not die until 1949 & I have seen that sons grave.

Joshua Pollard was a bad apple in & out of Prison many times.

So where was he is 1891 & 1901, perhaps prison & I know that sometimes prisoners were just down as initials but J.P. is not listed in the prisons in the area.

And ultimately what the hell happened to him!

Anyone have any sugggestions, apart from give up!

Regards

Eddie
