Mummo, what a mix up. I would think that, after he has been treated, your brother should complain about all the different diagnoses. I hope all goes well for him anyway and send him all my positive thoughts.

And, you'd think they would be pleased that people want to get tested, surely an early diagnosis saves money on the long run. I hope you get your tests done soon.

Kemp, I sympathise, shingles is nasty and, being a virus, it makes you feel very down. Take it easy and rest as much as you can.

Mummo, I am so sorry for your poor brother, he must wonder what's going to happen to him. I hope he gets the correct treatment very soon and can be strong enough to fight back, altho all the hassle knocks the fight out of anyone I would think.
I will keep thinking positive thoughts for him and all your family who have had so much to cope with.

Janey, do just double check the result of that biopsy, please, letters can go astray and things not get followed up sometimes.

Mummo, I don't know how the screening tests are rationed in the UK, I'll just say bellow loud and long about getting them.

Ovarian cancer is a bad one. By the time there are any symptoms at all, it is almost always too late.

My little sister the non-smoking vegetarian was diagnosed with Stage III rectal cancer two years ago, at age 42. (A 3-inch tumour when they operated, and several lymph nodes.) A year of chemo, radiation, surgery, more chemo, and another surgery, and she is clear of cancer now.

So I finally had the colonoscopy in September -- you must have missed my thread about it! Here in Canada, no questions asked. My doctor just sent me for it. (I'm under 60.)

And it was a piece of cake. Even the purging everybody'd warned me about here was a piece of cake. Well, a couple of bowls of jello and nothing else for a day. ;) A total piece of cake, not worth all the fretting I did, but probably worth the double dose of sedative I demanded, just to be sure.

I had one little polyp, and since I havent heard further, assume it was benign, so I go in for the colonoscopy again in 5 years (rather than the 3 it would have been if there had been any problem).

All the best to your family, and you get those tests however you can.

How awful for your brother, I send love and positive thoughts.
I sort of have an idea of what you are going through. To long a story to tell on here and dont want to go on about it when your family have your own things to deal with.

The story gets worse !!!!!!!!

my brother phoned me on thursday night and said the consultant had rang him apologizing for getting the results wrong and it wasn't cancer but a growth and he would have to have a op to have it removed.
Wow did we thank God that it wasn't cancer, but our happiness was short lived................Brother had a appointment with his own GP on Friday ( yesterday) who told him she had received all the test results and he DID have cancer, he has to have the C.T scan this week then they are going to operate and follow it with chemo.
Really am getting angry now as it seems one hiccup after another, l will be glad when l can get up to see my brother.
If any of you would like to send my brother healing and positive thoughts they would be gratefully received, x

Sorry for delay but not been well!
You push for screening and tell them you are really worried in case its missed in you ...good grief some people go down there and seem to get everything ...others dont even get heard ..

Take Care of you as the worry and grief wont help ..I know its hard keeping "happy" but the hurt will calm down and you will feel strong again xx

I have had cancer of the womb, ovarian cancer and breast cancer over a twenty two year period. I cant fault the help I had, but was never offered counselling or monetary help when off work, although my OH was poorly paid. I did manage to get housing benefit through my MP's intervention. I am a walking miracle.

You are entitled to screening. My Dad died in 1983 from bowel cancer, just before his 54th birthday. Just over three years ago my Mum was diagnosed with rectal cancer, aged 75. Thankfully, Mum came through it ok after months of combined chemo and radium treatment.

Myself, two sisters and brother were all advised to have screening. Brother and younger sister both had the poo test and my older sister and myself had the camera thingy .... unpleasent but nowhere near as bad as I thought. We were all clear, thankfully.

I would definately push for screening, you are entitled to it.

Hi Kemp, l did phone up bowel cancer screening and they said they couldn't help as l was under 60 ! so saw my doctor last Monday and he said he would write to them to see if they would send me a test kit also l have a blood test on Monday for the Ovarian cancer which when l first went in 1997 they refused me the test ( different doctors) as they said it had to be two close family members that had had it but at least my Doctor will now do it.

OMG.....I really dont know what to say and I,m sitting here knowing that we have been through the same sort of things ...and I still struggle to understand why my daughters school say she needs counciling!!

We have never known why all the cancer suffers in our family have died from Liver followed by lung followed by prostrate .....
I dont know what to say to you ...BUT make sure you get all the check ups you are entitled to ..now I know you are allowed to get checked for bowel but its not very nice
as for info on whats right and wrong it seems to me that EACH person shows cancer in different ways there doesnt seem to be a format,which isnt much help

In 1996 my sister wasn't very well, she was told she had indigestion then a floating rib (what ever that is) then had x.rays taken that they lost but in the end she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, then it was to late the cancer spread and she died in 1997 aged 48.
In 2009 my mum wasn't to well , it wasn't till she broke her hip that they decided to give her a scan, no everything was all right even though she had lost a lot of weight they couldn't tell us what was wrong with her, after another two scans they diagnosed bowel cancer, ok she was old and they said she wouldn't survive surgery they did do a stoma op to help her but in the end the cancer spread to her liver and lungs and she was so frail we couldn't even give her a cuddle as she was skin and bones and they couldn't even give her a injection in her arm as there was nothing there. As a lot of you know mum died in July.,.
While looking after our mum my brother hadn't been feeling well, after mums death he went to the doctors who weren't to bothered with his symptons but sent him for a scan..........they told him that they thought it was stomach cancer and a week later he had a camera put up him and was told it was bowel cancer, now he has just had the results back from the hospital on his biopsy and they have told him it was non cancerous cells but donot get too excited because he has to have a major operation and if it does come back as cancer he has to have 9 months of chemo.
Surely they must know, three members of my family have now gone through hell and my brother is only 55 and deserves to live.
So what l'm asking has anyone ever been given the right information when having cancer or have we just been unlucky ???
