Frances I could name an handful of reasons why people join gr n its not always to share knowledge for me its not that at all. I keep my membership going so I can keep in touch with friends I have made on and off the boards and to me its well worth my tener for that. I sopped having a tree on here when I had had enough of "sharing knowledge" and (its not the majority but a significant number) found by doing this they were just taking and using my hard work without thanks and without needing it - to be blunt they were collecting names I had researched when really they didn't need them (ie C&P the whole tree instead of just their branch). I know there has been times when I (and others) have been brought low in life and this site has proved a great source of comfort and more often a distraction. I am responding to the part of your post "what the heck are they on the site for .." not the other bit. As I prefer to help as much as I can on here rather than opening up a tree. |

Maybe it could seem rude to some when a thread is put up and people take the time to comment on it but the original poster doesnt come back to reply. |

When I was a free member, I could send and receive pm's. The rules may have changed. I'd check if I were you. |

I'm not certain of this. But if the PMs were sent to free members. Then they can't reply, unless they pay the £9.95 for std membership. |

The site is not necessarily for "sharing knowledge", no one has to if they don't want to! |

Don't you find it rude that when you send an email to someone who clearly has info you'd be interested only for them to not even have the courtesey to reply. What the heck are they on this site if they are not willing to share their knowledge? Grrr! |
