Dear Marje,

Being the ideal husband (nobody told me that, I just noticed it myself) I do the washing up every other bonfire night.

I wash and then run them under the cold tap and leave them. My good lady insists on drying them.

My argument is that it creates work and a tea towel is more likely to put germs on than take any off. In my opinion cold water leaves no smears worth talking about.

Should I take in an au pair?

Like you Harry, I never dry up. A quick rince under running water to wash any soap off is fine, no smears, no germs, so dirty drying up cloths.

Hi Harry, I never dry my pots,why create work that nature will do for you?

We were taught in domestic science,that unless you use a boiled,germ-free tea towel,it is best to air dry.

How about buying a dishwasher???

I haven't used a teatowel for years, always rinse under the tap after washing up and leave to drain and air dry. O.h. is awful at washing up, he can't see bits he misses and doesn't rinse properly so I dread to think what gunk would be passed from item to item on a teatowel. I always have to rewash things, and I don't think it's done on purpose so he gets out of it, lol, it's the rubbish lighting in his kitchen and his poor eyesight and he's only 56, dread to think what he will be like in a few years but hopefully I will be moved on by then and he can do it any which way he likes.

Many thanks for the replies. Had been hoping a couple more would have gone along with me employing an au pair - i could then have presented the evidence to my good lady.
