We had tropical fish for many years and found them very interesting and enjoyed every minute of keeping them.

If you do decide to go down the tropical route please do the homework first on what fish are compatible with what, otherwise you may end up with bullied fish or at worse only one fish in a tank and all the others eaten as this happened to me when i added a cichlid to a tank of neons lol.
One piece of advice i would give is try to buy the biggest tank you can fit in, as this hobby is so addictive that some months down the line you'll have wished you had....
Enjoy the Hobby it's a great one.

Julia, further to my suggestion to get a book by Leslie .B.Katterns.there is another one called " The Complete Aquarium" by Peter W. Scott. tells you all about setting them up ,Fish and everything you wish to know. try "www.dk.com" take care and enjoy. But a Trout Pool would be better.**M**.:o))>

siamese fighting fish can be put in a community tank but only one per tank. They do get on with other fish but NOT with another fish of the same kind. The siamese fighting fish just wont get on with another siamese fighting fish and will fight till one kills the other one. That said they may on a rare accation pick on smaller fish in the tank if they get board.
