Good thinking Liz, well done for for putting this thread up again this year!

I was a volunteer SOS Christmas parcel packer last year, and my local SOS branch handled over 500 parcels in the space of weeks.

Dont leave it til the last minute!!! Contact your local SOS rep first, they will ask you NOT to seal your shoebox.
Fill it, and leave it unsealed - as there are strict guidelines (and weight restriction) the rep must follow before packing them up to the required spec.- and then take it to your rep.

May I just say......be careful what you put in the parcels,
ie no matches, lighters, lighter fuel, aerosols.
nothing alcoholic.
nothing which could be taken as pornographic (mags, books) many of these parcels will be going into areas where such items are banned.

Ideas for your shoebox?

Socks, gloves, scarves - yes, it gets v cold in deserts at night!!
Paperback books.
Magazines & puzzle books.
Travel sized games, ie chess, etc,
Pack of playing cards.
Sweets and gum.
Toiletries - shower gel, foot powder, talc, lip salve etc- no aerosol cans. (and don't forget the ladies items!)
And remember the weight, keep it light!! Each shoebox must be under 2kg.

I just checked out the S O S site to see if we can send parcels this year and here's the notice there on there.

Not much time so google Parcels for Servicemen and go to S O S site for details.
Thanks folks, can't believe how quickly the time has gone since last year. Please keep this thread nudged.

CHRISTMAS PARCEL

2010 APPEAL

Each year, thanks to the wonderful generosity of individuals and companies, Support Our Soldiers has been able to send out thousands of Christmas parcels.
We have again been given permission by the M.O.D. to run our appeal.
Should you wish to send a parcel to a member of our Armed Forces, please contact your nearest Area Co-ordinator, whose details can be found from the "Contact Us" button at the left hand side of the screen. They will give you any help and advice that you may need and will discuss arrangements for the collection of your parcels.
We can accept parcels up to 21st November, which will allow time for checking and dispatch before the last posting date for BFPO.
If you wish, you can make monetary donations via "Justgiving" using the link below, or cheques made payable to "Support Our Soldiers" may be sent to :-
Support Our Soldiers,
84 Topping Street,
Blackpool,
Lancashire,
FY1 3AD.
From all the SOS team, we would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
