Luckily most of us are alert to these scams asking for details. Just never give details over the net unless you are buying and have instigated the request. Anti virus will not usually pick up a scam unless there is a virus in it. That one will not have had a virus but once you gave your information your pc would be hacked into. Or your bank account if that is what they asked for. But thanks for the alert we will all be on our guard now.

This email looked totally professional but the only thing that alerted me to the fact that it could be a scam was that the prize was in pounds sterling otherwise if it had of been in Aussie dollars then it very well could have been genuine.

I'm afraid its a sign of the times that uncrupulous people do this.

I absolutely know my daughter is in her bed, but fake emails with her address arrive nightly for viagra and other pills and potions .!

Best one one was Nelson Mandella waiting at JFK airport with !M US$ for me when he was actually on TV busy opening the World CupFootball in SA !

The spelling , grammar etc. is generally a give away,the idea being to catch someone on the hop and extract their bank details from them.Anything that starts Dearly Beloved gets deleted sharpish !

I received an email from Google UK to say that I had one 800,000 pounds in their lottery. It instructed me to fill out the necessary information in the attachment and email it back to them.

It looked very convincing and all the address information for Google UK was correct but given I live in Australia thought it must be a scam. I have just phoned Google here in Sydney and sure enough it is a scam but as i didn't open the attachment I don't know if there was a virus attached.

Now we run Norton's 360 with the highest security level available and normally nothing like this gets through so just be careful.
