I have had two phone calls asking to speak to a Rebecca Pembroke. I dont know who she is but she is giving out my phone number as her contact number. Should i think this is just a co-incidence or should I be worried in case she is using anything else of mine.

Have you tried to find her number in the directory (or are you meaning on your mobile?) If the land line, maybe she has just got the number and has accidentally got it wrong. Maybe one digit out or something.

I asked the last person who this rebecca
was and they said that is what they are trying to find out. They hung up before I had time to ask who I was speaking to.

Thanks Ann

The only person by the name of Pembroke in the phone book has a totally different number to mine.

now, when we moved here and had a phone put on( for the first time ever,)

a couple of months later we had two different "aliases"

our number was one digit different to both of them!!

one was a private number whose owner was referred to, as Jock.
and the other was a garage nearby........that sold french cars.......

Thanks Bob

WE have lived here for over twenty years and always had the same number.

The first call I had yesterday was from a well spoken gentleman. I didnt think much of it then today it was a foreign sounding lady. Alarms bell rang when she said she was trying to find out who this Rebbecca was.

I'm just a bit worried that this girl might be using other details of mine.

redial 1471 and see whos number is there ,it maybe a withheld one,,

I had about 7 calls for a youg man,,,,,they asked to speak to him by name, last time they called I asked point blank what it was about if they could tell me and what number they were hoping to reach.....the last 2 digits they had got wrong way round they found from the dailing code.

Jane Report 17 Nov 2010 16:54

Thanks Kay and Ice Ice Baby

It is a land line. I have tried 1471 and the number on both occassions the numbers were withheld.

I am hoping that, as she is not using my name it is a mistake. but it is strange that two different people have tried to contact this lady on my phone number.

Hopefully it will get sorted soon.

When I had my landline connected, I kept getting calls for some guy. I found out he had never lived here, but the number I was given was actually his mother's old number.
It was debt collectors Welcome Finance looking for him lolol

I've had that happen also. I think people give random phone numbers when they don't want to be contacted. As long as you don't start getting mail addressed to this woman I wouldn't worry too much.

We had a problem with nuisance calls a few years ago, and BT arranged for our calls to be intercepted,

A few years ago I kept getting calls from a bloke asking for Heidi........after the 2nd or 3rd call I asked him who Heidi was and did he know where she lived etc. I thought perhaps he was ringing the right number but wrong dialling code, but no it seems that sometimes he would get through to Heidi okay and other times his call came through to me. Had quite a few calls from him over the months this was going on.

I don't know if Heidi changed her number or what but eventually the calls stopped..........shame really me and him were getting quite friendly by that time! LOL

Thanks everyone for your advice. I wil see if I get another call today and see if I can find out who the caller is and company they are working for. Then I can decide what to do next if I need to do anything at all.

WE have also just had a letter saying someone tried to take money out of my husbands on line account the other day. Luckily the bank stopped it. I dont think the two things are linked but I will keep a close eye on things for the next few weeks just in case.

The person who phones me has no idea who I am and I shall keep it that way.

All the best

Why don't you get a credit report. It cost about £2 and then you will know for sure if someone is upto no good.

I have been a victim of fraud and the police did advice me to get a report every so often.

Their is nothing worse than worring about if somebody has done something at least with that you can see straight away if somebody has tried anthing straight away, and it does put your mind at rest. expecially now that your husbands online account has been targeted.

You may be able to get a free online credit report. You have to give your credit card number, but as long as you contact them within so many days, they will cancel. We did this a few years ago. Admittedly we got a couple of phone calls asking why we didn't want to keep it going, but they weren't persistant.
