Thanks Ann. It is always worth reminding people about these scams.

We, who trawl the internet, are aware of various scams but it does worry me that some of our older relatives could be caught out. We must stress to our elderly relatives and friends that they need to check with us before making any calls or giving out bank details over the phone. They have grown up in a different environment and are very trusting.

Yesterday, when I was on my daily visit to an elderly relative she had a call from her energy provider, as it was the end of a billing period and she had a debit balance on her account. They wanted her to give permission for the debit to be made from her bank. I asked for them to put the details in the post and we will deal with it. I am sure if she had answered the phone she would have gone ahead and paid up. I have no reason to believe there is a problem with this account, but why on earth not just write in the first place?

Be aware everyone.

Postal Scam:

Can you circulate this around especially as Xmas is fast approaching - it
has been confirmed by Royal Mail. The Trading Standards Office are making
people aware of the following scam:

A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel
Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and
that you need to contact them on 0906 6611911 (a Premium rate number).

DO NOT call this number, as this is a mail scam originating from Belize.

If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will
already have been billed £315 for the phone call.

If you do receive a card with these details, then please contact Royal Mail
Fraud on 020 7239 6655.
