I am going to have a nasty weekend

~flying doctor~ Report 19 Nov 2010 20:50

I have been unwell for about a month. Stomach ache does not do the pain I've had justice.I went to my doctors and all I got was it's your irritable bowel. This was not the norm, I've had irritable bowel for 25+ years. Four days later I dragged myself to the docs again, I had been in bed for three of them and I was told the same thing. Just as I was leaving he asked how my husband was. I said the injections were working well and he was in better health than temper. The doctor put his hand on my shoulder and said. "don't argue with him just do what he wants he is not a well man". How I kept my mouth closed I do not know, I wanted to say well if my doctor looked after me maybe I could look after my husband, but I just walked out of the door.
I went home and changed my doctor, I have been with the practice 45 years. New doctor has given me a thorough examination done bloods taken water and the other samples and when I went on Monday he went onto the computer to ask for an appointment to see a consultant at the hospital. Time 10 am. At 11.30 am I crawled into bed I felt so ill and at 12.30 oh brought the phone to me. It was the hospital asking if I could get there for 9.30 the next day. I saw the consultant and she advised a barium meal scan, this was Tuesday. On Wednesday I received an appointment and the horrible stuff to take, my scan is on Monday next, hence my nasty weekend, a weekend of hardly any food and the trots. But hows that for speed, bet no one can better it. Elaine.

Hope you are soon sorted out and the pain eases off. The stuff you have to take before the scan is awful isnt it. Pleased the new doctor listened to you and arranged things so quickly for you. Please let us know how you get on with the scan when you feel able.
take care

Thanks Sylvia, have some tablets from consultant and they dull the pain, have felt better today. The last time I took to me bed. apart from when I had an op, was when I was pregnant with my daughter. I had gastro enteritis, my daughter is 47. Elaine.

New Dr... fresh ideas.
I was just saying to somebody the other day that their Father should be seeing sombody else.Wont go into detail but this is an 'old Dr' he has gone to for years.,and I feel he needs a second opinion.

Good luck

Merlin, my mum in law always used arrowroot powder and I had not thought of it until your message. Wil try it, I'd try arsenic if it got rid of the pain. ( well I suppose it would) a bit drastic though. Elaine.

Hi Elaine, sorry you have had such a bad time and glad you have a better doctor who is sorting you out. Grit your teeth and think about next week after the appointment when hopefully you will know what you are up against and it's something easily sorted.
You know where I am if you want a natter but I know it's difficult.
As for your o.h. and his doctor, huh! Send the o.h. to stay at the surgery if the doc is that sympathetic lol

Take care,
love

I have a favourite Dr at our practice and he is very caring, but I had to see one of the others when mine was on holiday, and i have had more positive help on my permanent cough from this new one. Cross with myself because i thought my specialist apptmt was Monday, but its Thursday! i was so looking forward to getting some help.

Thanks all for you messages. Tried to get arrowroot no joy and no biscs either.Purple what a great idea wil send oh down to him and may they enjoy each others company. When I was in bed for 3 days I never even had a cuppa unless I made it myself so why should I look after him, caring works both ways. Elaine.

Elaine, I know that feeling well, my o.h. once said to me when you get older and if you aren't well, I will look after you! Huh! When I have bad days with the fm and cfs and stay in bed, I get the odd cuppa (usually he forgets to put sugar in ) but would starve to death if I waited for him to bring me anything to eat, and when I finally struggle down to get myself something he will say What's happening about dinner? or just sit there watching tv. He will never say Oh shall I go and get fish and chips, or go to the chinese takeaway, which is five minutes walk away! I end up having to stand there to cook a meal and then wash up later cos he will have gone off to bed.

MIserable beggars, they deserve each other lol

Poor you, love, go and treat yourself to something yummy after the scan. It's awful being so hungry when you have to starve yourself for tests but hope it will be worthwhile and they will find out why you feel so unwell. I have ibs but not too badly, thank goodness and nothing as bad as you right now.

Take care getting to the hospital if you feel faint with hunger, keep us posted on how you get on.

O.h. on late shift so will be around during the evenings this week and most afternoons except today.

love
