I think he was looking materialistically. For example we now live in a throwaway society were in the past we would make do and mend. Younger siblings had hand me downs rather than new clothes as these were so much more expensive. Not everyone had phones, today almost everyone has a mobile. |

He presumably forgot to look at the bigger picture - those who rent rather than have a mortgage. You rarely see established rents go down. And he forgot that even those who do have a mortgage can lose their jobs! |
