Those with Scottish ancestors would you subscribe

....to a site that had original documents on ie documents that are held by Scotlandspeople but rather than pay per view was subscription? I hope that make sense.

I'm just wondering why Scotland doesn't have a subscription site whereas England does in the form of Find My Past, GR and ancestry.

I would love it if Scotlands People released a yearly subscription where you had access too all records, it is something I have been hoping they would do for a long time, although the subscription would need to be reasonable, perhaps along the same costs as what ancestry charge for a full UK subscription.

I have heaps of Scottish ancestors on my side, alot of them no where near fully researched, as with some common names it works out so expensive.

I would love it...I have spent a small fortune on credits, and would much rather have a long term subscription.

Aside from that SP has been a great site, easy to use, and the service when you ask a question or cannot read an image is great, much better than FMP (In my opinion!)

Hi SRS

The only reason I have to use SP is to research my sister-in-law's family (my brother's widow) ..... she's the only one that I have.

She knows she was born in Greenock 80 years ago, she knows her parents were married there.

Someone on the boards found her birth registration, her parents marriage and her mother's birth in Greenock ..... but beyond that, she knows nothing else

There seems to be no record of her father being born in Greenock ...... although I have asked if the Help Clinic can look for that

so being able to search on a site with my own subscription would be really helpful, as I don't really know who I'm looking for or where I'm looking!

Thanks everyone :) I know what you mean Sylvia. It would be helpful in cases such as that.

I've spent a fortune over the years to get where I've got, but with some of my families I know that there's more to find but the names are just too common. If I had the subscription and the time to search through all the records with that name, it maybe possible that I could find them in the end.

The ironic thing is that I'd probably spend more in a subscription than I would have done in credits as it would be value for money and more of a chance of finding ancestors.

Mind you I feel the same about a few of my English ancestor's death certificates. Again the names are too common and I have no idea about when (or for that matter where) they died except that they died after 1901. I just wish I could see all the possible death certs and then say yes that's the one, here's the money. In that respect I wish that they were like SP where you can see the certs online and they're not so expensive in comparison.
