My thoughts are with the families and friends of the 29 miners-what a tragic waste of lives!

Hopefully the powers that be will not allow mines with dangerous levels of gases to operate,in future,and will be governed by stricter controls.

Rest in Peace.

What a horrible, senseless waste of precious lives. Remembering those who have lost their lives in NZ, and remembering Aberfan nearly 30 years on.

The whole country is in mourning. Flags are at half mast. It is a terrible shock to us all.

My personal opinion is that they lost valuable time in being able to get into the mine and check it out. Surely there is equipment they could have used to protect those rescuers going in. I feel it has been such a waste, such a needless loss of life.

My thoughts are with there families and friends.

We have the technology to send people to the moon so why do we not value enough those who go underground for us to develop methods that meant a miner never again had to lose his life for us?

A terrible waste of 29 brave and noble men.

It is very sad, was concerned as there was no sound from them from the start. One lad was 17 and it was his first day at work. Thoughts go out to their families.

I've rec. an email today from cousin in N/Zealand about the second explosion,tragic news. There were two scottish lads,one was due to marry next month.

May they all rest in peace

I am old enough to remember mining disasters here in wales, such a tragedy for all concerned. My heart goes out to all friends and relativesof the deceased. i suspect that there was never any hope for them.

After a further explosion in the Pike River Mine in the South Island of NZ this afternoon, all 29 miners have been declared dead. The thoughts of all
New Zealanders are with the families of these brave men. RIP
