God I love to do this! I have been a nail-biter all my life.

As a child, when I was a Brownie, I had a special rolling 2 week chart whereby my nails were checked for munching.

I have subsequently found that I am able to want to stop biting for special occasions - but, if nothing's going on, I can chew to my heart's content.

As a matter of fact I have just bitten down all my nails this evening. Fantastic! I don't bite them until they bleed, I don't bite them down to the quicks, but I do love to get them between my teeth! Rant over.

I've bitten mine all my life as well . Mum used to put " Stop and Grow " on them when I was a kiddie but I actually got used to the taste of it ....lol

I find that if I read a book , that is when I feast on my nails the most .

Ooh I can't bear the thought of nails in my mouth. Don't have to bite them mine are quite strong and therefore brittle so break easily, usually below the quick.

I bit my nails as a child, and my mother put "Bitter Aloes" on my fingers

OMG how could you ladies>>???

Puts my teeth on edge just to think about it, and sorry but it is so unsightly :(... If i scag a nail I have to get my nail file out ( always in my handbag.lol)
Eyes and hands are the 2 main things I notice on a person.

I love well groomed hands, (hubby's are fab and his big brown eyes ..but blue one's make my heart flutter too .lol)

Son used to bite his and I always dosed him with stop and grow.
Since using the computer for so long ,he's now 22 ,having noticed how much better his 'mouse' hand is, he has stopped altogether:)) They look so much better:)

My sister has beautiful long almond shaped nails, that's before the tips grow ! Think I drew the short straw mine are shorter and wider but are in good condition .

Ohhhh, no I couldn't put my nails in my mouth - never mind bite them! They're so strong I'd probably break my teeth if I tried anyway LOL.

My OH used to be forever biting his nails and I couldn't stand that either, so I was always shouting at him to stop it, actually clipped him round the ear once 'cos it was really getting on my nerves! LOL

I'm very lucky I have very long, very strong nails........young girl on the supermarket check out said to me last week......"wow haven't you got lovely nails", which was nice. :-)))

I too bite my nails - I can't stand the feel of a nail file.
Sometimes I cut them with an pair of clippers, but end up with a strange shape, so 'finish' them off - trim the sides - with my teeth! LOL
Don't get me wrong, they're not chewed down to stumps, just nicely rounded.

I don't bite my nails, I only did it for a very short time when a child and my Dad stopped me by yelling at me or slapping me! However I have always chewed at the sides of my fingers and thumbs, it's a nervous thing I know, I sit and pick at the skin or nibble away if there is the slightest rough edge. I try to use lots of handcream when watching tv so the taste puts me off but can't imagine I would ever stop now after more than 50+ years of doing it.

My nails are quite a nice shape, exactly like my Mum's were, and my half moons on my thumbnails are very pronounced, again just like my Mum's.

I stopped biting when I was fourteen because I wanted to grow my nails.

Thirty years later I sussed how to give them the strength not to break as they are pretty fragile.

The trick is to keep them painted. Now it is not very important to me I have actually had compliments on my nails.

Ha ha ha!

Firstly, I have never painted my finger nails, even when long, because I don't like that look on me. So that has never helped me to grow them. (Although I do like to paint my toe nails. No, I don't bite them!)

Secondly, those of you who say it doesn't look nice??? You might as well say that a woman doesn't look nice in low heels when she can wear high heels?? I really don't care about what anyone thinks about my nails - or my heels, for that matter!

I'm addicted to nail-chewing just as some of you smoke or some of you drink too much, or worse. We don't care what others think!

Hi Helen~~

I only added to your thread cos I thought it it was an unusual subject to start.

I don't smoke,I have a glass of wine in the side of my desk as I type (it's Fri after all )

Paint my toenails in the summer, and fingernails when I feel like it and have the time, they were always painted before I had children .lol

My post wasn't meant to criticize , just my opinion ,assume you posted for opinions or reactions. I'm no martyr.

I wear flats and heels whichever , my choice .
Same as it is your choice to nibble your nails.

We all differ :)
