Hi
Can any assist me in my query, I cannot locate my family tree on this site! I have exported a GEDCOM of my tree to another source and they impoted a GEDCOM of their tree to me, since then my family tree has disappeared. I thought the original tree was kept on this site and a copy exported, HELP

It is, but anything you import overwrites your existing tree
nobody can import onto your tree only you can do that

If you can find the copy you exported you can send it back to your site

Thanks Lindsey thats very helpful, so on this site you cannot import other family trees without losing yours? Because I know on other sites they just stack the the GEDCOM's up and you open each one as and when you want to search that particular tree.

Sorry for the confusion about other sites what I meant was another Geneological site allows imports without losing your own tree. When I reimport my tree will I lose the present family tree that i was sent to me?

yes it will overwrite your present infi , you need a spare family treemaker, I think Familysearch have free ones . export what you have to that, check you can read it then import the old tree back , cor what a palaver !

this is why

Also note that while we will make every attempt to merge any changes to your Genes Reunited Tree you have made offline in your GEDCOM file, changes that cannot be matched will result in your existing Genes Reunited Tree to be overwriten. This includes all relations and associated data.

On GG you can only have one tree for each membership.

Importing a fresh gedcom automatically replaces your existing tree which is then lost forever.

Exporting from GR on the other hand just takes a copy at the time. Your tree remains exactly as it was.

Does that make it clear for you?

Further to my query, I have now realised that I did not send my Family Tree through a GEDCOM I just allowed it to be viewed. So my question is how do I get back my Family Tree?

Oh dear then all is lost ?
I think it is wise to have a Plan B and back up everything on your computer and ask Santa for a good Treemaker program.!
