Mary...this sounds like the Oxfam Unwrapped Gifts....my nephew and partner will be getting those this year;o) very good idea for the teachers, as you say they most probabaly get things that they don't really want!!

Sue....l remember seeing those in various charity shops. Don't know if they are still sold or not. Some people would love them:o)

We decided last Christmas, instead of giving teachers little gifts at Christmas, to make a donation to "Chickens for Christmas" in their names. Every one of them reacted positively. This year they are sharing a goat !! Two of the teachers actually made the subject of that gift a discussion topic for the class,Looked at the website and shared it with the class. They told me that they really appreciate this type of gift, they receive so many trinkets over the years!!
Just another way of showing charity.
Here in November we have a local food drive, to which we contribute as well, to benefit the local' food banks'. One Saturday morning, people put a bag of non-perishable food items on their front steps and volunteers drive round the neighbourhoods collecting them, gathering them in a local arena for sorting. This year they stated the amount collected was "almost miraculous". Next year my granddaughter wants to help at the arena. Now they are aware that charity begins at home but can also be spread to worldwide neighbours.
We also donate to the local charity shop and have given away lots of items through freecycle. The girls love the charity shops, it's only recently they have realised that the clothes are second-hand!!

Jude, a few years ago, I used to help out in a charity shop, and a few of the more talented ladies would make those toilet roll covers.!!!
Basically it was a toilet roll with a doll in middle and they would dress in crocheted sp dresses and hats and decorate. People would even order them in particular colours. All the wool came from unravelling unsaleable garments, and decorations from bits of bric a brac .
Guess they may be considered old hat now. :-)

Hi Jude
I'm a textile artist so don't usually paint except sometimes onto fabric. I usually screen print but have done some other experimental "stuff" lately.
.
My work is contemporary so not everyone's cup of tea but some people seem to like my work and I've sold quite a few pieces so fingers crossed.
Take care
Von

Hi Jude
That's a great idea. I hope it all goes well.

I'm going to be involved in a Charity Art exhibition at our local library.
Instead of the library taking the commission on sales the Charity will receive the money.
I just hope we manage to sell plenty of work.
Take care
Von

Not clear on this Jude, are you going to sell the boxes in the shop or raffle them? Nice idea though. Don't forget you probably need permission (licence) if you want to raffle them, unless the charity can cover it with their licence.

That is a good idea Jude - anything we can do to help those fortunate than ourselves has to be worth it.

l decided this year to do something for one of our charity shops and thought well it ought to be the one l'm working at (volunteering). So l have been for the past month collecting bits and pieces eg....

Tissues
Liquid soap
Sellotape
note book
Pot scourers
Hand cream
Branston pickle
mince pies
oxo cubes
pkt custard mix
f/liquid
tin of evap milk
after eights
pkt malteesers
etc etc

at our shop we have some old (Boots chemist) shopping baskets, so l plan to fill atleast 3 along with my sisters and 2 other staffs help, then take them to a florist where they will cover them in cellophane and a box:o))

Hopefully this will collect a nice sum for the shop.
Just thought l'd tell you incase you were woundering what you could do:o)
