just recieved a letter from housing ass due to cut backs we are unable to grit your estate whichis shelterd housing, we would like to install grit boxes at a small charge paid weekly. the average age of us tennants ie 68-85 do they exspect us to do the gritting?most of us have disabilites during the last snow fall they came and grited the path,s when it started to thaw what a joke these council,s are.

I think that is awful Michael......They should get people on community service to come and do it....
I live on an Army estate and the young lad a few doors up from us was out at 8am this morning clearing everyones paths and the pavements and gritting them....He wasn't even asked to do it he just wanted everyone to be safe...Bless him, he's just 15yrs old.....

I,ve just spent Two and a Half Hours Clearing my drive and footpaths so we can get out, had at least 2.8ftof snow last night and its at it again, must have watched me finish the decided to give me some more. at one time most people cleared there own frontage and those of others who could not. too many people now expect every thing to be done for them.as has been said, those people who are perportedly doing "Community Service" should be out there doing it. **M**.At the moment I feel completely Kernakered.:o)>.

Merlin
Don´t you think it´s a slightly different matter where a sheltered housing complex is concerned?
Not only are the residents elderly or disabled, but the welfare services such as wardens, carers etc need to have access.

Wisechild, I,m well past my threescore years and ten,but try to do as much as I can for myself,my friend is disabled and I have to keep it clear in case She has to get to hospital in emergency, its vital that she does,If no one else will do it, you do it yourself.**M**.

Housing Associations have a duty of care to their residents.
A service charge is built into the rents to deal with situations such as this.
Please don´t think I´m decrying what you have done. I admire you for it.
The point I´m trying to make is that Housing Associations are responsible for the safety of their tenents if they are living on a sheltered housing complex. That´s why people choose to live there.

What you have to remember is that these people have to try and get to work,if they cant, people have to manage as best they can.**M**.

We live in a cul-de sac, some houses owner occupied, others housing association. The ASsociatione sent a lorry round to grit the steps and pavement, but would not do the hill which leads to us. My OH, 75 and unable to stand fully upright, was the only one who went along there to the grit box and saw to the slope. This is a mixed age area and there are enough young ones here to have done it. Makes me so cross when i see them sailing out in their cars with never a thought to anyone else!
