Annina,vary nice,however,its much nicer on "Toasted Doorsteps" done on an open fire.and a decent bottle of plonk. **M**.:o)>.Oh, and Beef Dripping is nice as well with plenty of Black Pepper.

Here is a lovely cheap, quick recipe for xmas dinner;

Take two freshly-baked doorsteps (slices of bread for you posh southeners) liberally spread with pork dripping,sprinkle with salt,and scoff with a mug of tea.

Heaven !!

Julia, I thought you would be having a" Large Goose" for christmas.**M**.:o)>.

The first christmas cards I saw this year were for sale in August.!!!
I just ignore it all till December, and then do things when I feel it is time.
It makes me wonder, all that food sitting on the shelves for months.......
what do they put in it to stay edible.?

And why do they always suggest gifts you can make about a week before Christmas? Does it not dawn on them that more time is needed?

It's nothing but pure commercialism, that's what it is.
Whilst I do appreciate that manufactures have to do their bit well in advance of a particular season, the shops should not display the goods until the appropriate time.
Last year M***sons had Cadbury Cream Eggs on display the day after Christmas.
If they continue to bring things forward, we will be celebrating Christmas 2015 in 2011.
I'd lobby my MP if only I knew who it was.

no turkey..goose...chicken for me.. its a big steak..i would be sick to have poultry on a roast dinner...even the smell makes me feel sick cooking it..

Our local paper shop already has Easter Bunnies in.

I take no notice of these adverts,unless it is for a good deal on wines lol.I cook the blooming Turkey the same way every year,with all the usual trimmings etc.If I changed anything I don't my lot would be too happy!
Am I right in remembering an advert that used to be on showing how to make sure your Turkey was defrosted properly.I may be talking a load of twaddle but there is something in my mind about someone in a pinny with a Turkey(fresh or defrosted) showing us how to stuff it and where to put the sausage meat.
I don't think it was Fanny Craddock lol

Hi gals, after getting through my usual 4 newspapers and supplements, my stomach is beggining to turn seeing it all. I have taken a cyclizine (anti sickness) pill.
I manage to ignore all the chocs Sue, but they have them piled out the supermarket door, that and boxes of lager etc.
Chris, wish I was coming to yours, not had Goose for years, and there is only the two of us sitting down
