If someone has opened the envelope and not replied, is it worth trying again, perhaps with more information or would you be classed as pestering?

Don't know if there is a definitive explanation Wendy, but 'name gatherer' to me means someone who is happy to add people of the same surname to their tree without making any effort to check whether there is an actual connection.

There may be very valid reasons for it, ie people who are doing a one name study, but often ( especially on Ancestry trees) they just scoop up info from other's trees and add it to their own even when it's clearly wrong...because it 'looks good' to have a big tree lol.

Sorry Rambling Rose - what is a name gatherer ?

Bob it is always possible that they will, but they may want to try and check out that YOU are not a 'name gatherer' first :) or just that they think it will be better to wait till they can make a 'sensible' reply...ie 'yes that's the same man' or 'no it isn't'?

Thank you Jan - I have done that and some have been opened but not replied anyway. Just got a bit frustrated as we seem to have a match but I cannot find out anymore info.

Lots of reasons, illness, death, depression, busy looking after family, work, holidays ... But if the envelope ( in Sent box) has not been opened it most likely means they are no longer using the site..

And some join just to do their tree, not to share info, either to give it or receive it... you pays your money and takes your choice lol.

why do some people read your message( I know cos the envelope is open) and not bother to reply?

Hi
Why do some people not reply when you ask for info about someone in their tree ? I always ask politely and reply to people who ask me even if it is to say I cannot help
