Has anyone else heard anything about the craze that is going on, on Facebook, where you change your profile picture to one of your favourite cartoon character. A friend of mine has now put on her status the following.

Did you hear that the group asking everyone to change their profile pictures to cartoon characters is acctually a group of peadophiles. they;re doing it because kids will accept their friend requests faster if they see a cartoon character. it has nothing to do with supporting child violence.

Don't know if this is true or not. has anyone else heard anything?

Yes Helen, most of young ones in family have changed their profiles to cartoon.
Was also told it was to support child vilolence, but not heard of it being anything to with paedophiles.

the NSPCC never actually set this up but they are happy for it to go ahead if it helps, but the rumour tht sick people have set it up is just that, a rumour set up to scaremonger n spoil it,

obv i understand why people panic n pas it on as true, better safe than sorry but its not what people are now saying,

it a bit of fun in my eyes n iv loved seeing cartoons from yrs gone by, brought back some lovely memories x

It's just a bit of a laugh with a message about the NSPCC. I would have thought common sense would tell people that it's not set up by some monster group of paedophiles. Of course people need to be cautious about protecting their children but this whole hysteria about paedophilia is damaging because it's so misleading - children are and always have been more at risk from people they already know. I think it's far better to check with a site like snopes before adding fuel to the fire.
