Dear All

Hello

Hope you are keeping well.

On this day, Roy Orbison passed away at just 52 years old.

Born in 1923, the American singer and songwriter was well known for his distinctive, powerful voice, complex compositions, and dark emotional ballads.

His greatest success came with Monument Records in the early to mid 1960s when 22 of his songs placed on the US Billboard Top Forty, including "Only the Lonely", "Crying", "In Dreams", and "Oh, Pretty Woman".

Despite sucess, Roy Orbison's life was touched by tragedy.

His career enjoyed a resurgence in 1988 when he joined the supergroup The Traveling Wilburys with George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, and Jeff Lynne and also released a new solo album.

Elvis Presley once said that Mr Orbison's voice was the best in the business.

RIP Mr Orbison. Your music finds new fans all the time.

Take gentle care
Very best wishes
xx

My younger daughter (born in 1983) adored Roy Orbison from the age of 3.

What's really weird is neither my ex nor I have a Roy Orbison record, (she does now! LOL) and I never listen to music dominated radio stations, so have no idea why/how she became so obsessed.
She was inconsolable when he died.

I love Roy Orbison's voice, I recorded some programmes about him and o.h. has put them on a disc for me. I also have some cds tucked away somewhere, no where to put my stuff in this silly little place of o.h.
Roy's songs take me back to my young teen years and then on through my life. It was a sad day when he died so young.

Rest in Peace, Roy.

Sharron Report 7 Dec 2010 14:07

My ex-boyfriend was a tremendous fan of Roy Orbison. At his funeral we took him in to 'You're The Only One'.

You know how, at a cremation of somebody who is not close family, you are not really sure what to do with your emotions.Whether to bawl or not.

Well, once we heard the first couple of bars of 'It's Over' come out of the crematorium speakers, we all had a much better idea.

I think my favourite was probably 'Blue Bayou' but I can't hear 'It's Over' without crying a bit now.

It's Over always gets me going, Sharron in fact, many of Roy's songs manage that!
