OK, my GR platinum sub is coming to an end, what do you guys recommend - renew it or take uut a diifferent sub? If I don't renew my GR sub will I still be able to access my tree - I've a lot of notes on there that don't export in a gedcom. But I'm not happy with the search facilities.

Help please!

hi mac, well what have you gained recently by having platimum? what did you have before? if you feel you have not really gained anything extra, than perhaps go back to what you had before and save a few pounds.

myself i have had gold membership for 2 years and it suits me fine as im always going back to relook something up and can do that times unlimited.

of course i have times when i have to ask for help from ancestry members but cant afford both. i also enjoy chatting to the friends i have made on here and the topics are more interesting than the tv sometimes!

you will have to weigh up advantages and dissavantages and see what side has more.

I would suggest that you drop back to being a Standard member for £9.95 for 6 months

Then take out a subscription in ancestry (my preference) or findmypast


There are so many more records available on those other sites than on here!


I, like many others, feel that the gold and platinum memberships on here are way too expensive for what you get!



You could in fact just not renew your membership at all on here ............... don't notify them, just don't pay.

GR will then drop you back automatically to Free membership, and you will still be able to access your tree, and work on it.


You will not however be able to send a pm to anyone nor post on these boards. You would be able to reply to a pm that someone sent to you


The Standard membership allows you to maintain your tree, to send pms, and to post on the boards.



so, my advice .................


drop back to Standard, and pay for the much better sites!

Thanks all for your input. Think I'll do as Sylvia suggests and drop back to standard, that way I can still use the boards - have had loads of help from everyone on here, and would miss the action.

Ancestry are offering a 14 day free trial, so will try it out at the end of the month when my GR sub expires.
