It seems that the ancestry transcribers have made the error more than once of assigning someone two wives when the woman of the NEXT house is shown as WIFE, but her husband is not there!

You're not the only one ot have discovered this little error

May I suggest that you send in an alternative name change to ancestry?

Just look to the left of the record, and you will see where to click.

That helps other researchers

I think ancestry's transcription has several errors on this entry

looking at the original Thomas Hamilton is actually Thomas Henderson living at 81 Trimdon Street
his spouse is Jane and children are

William J Henderson 20
Elizabeth J Henderson 17
Alice M Henderson 14
Clara B Henderson 12
Helen Henderson 8
Thomas H Henderson 2
Ethel May Henderson 9/12

Margaret Hamilton is living next door (80 Trimdon Street) with her children
Isabella Hamilton 12
Francis Hamilton 9
James Hamilton 5
Thomas Hamilton 6/12

Margaret is listed as wife of the head of house (her husband) who isn't listed as he wasn't at home on the night of the census

I looked on the 1891 census for Thomas Henderson, and according to this he had 2 wives and 2 sets of children. Unless I am reading it all wrong here is a link to the census

Hope it works
Thanks
