Actually Merlin, I'm quite concerned about the footwear one should wear when dealing with said crackers. Need shoes be rubber soled or, perhaps, steel toe-capped???

I would hate to drop a cracker on my foot - think of the damage it could cause!

Of course, one must not forget protective gloves in case one's hands are contaminated by the contents of the crackers. ;))

I'm sure any kid with the most basic school chemical knowledge can make much better bangs than anything in a christmas cracker.
I suppose weedkiller and sugar etc. will be illegal next...

I didn't mean for under 16 Ann, should have made
myself clearer, I meant the shopkeepers can sell
fireworks which in my mind is very dangerous and
usually children end up with injuries.

Shopkeepers could face up to six months in prison for selling Christmas crackers to people under 16 under new health and safety rules.

Under the regulations crackers are classified as low-grade fireworks and can only be sold to those aged 16 and over.

Stores face financial penalties and individual shop assistants could be jailed or fined up to £5,000 if they break the law, the British Retail Consortium (BRC) has warned.
