Has anyone got a father-in-law like i have got? He never happy there is always sometings wrong. My mother-in-law is great I got a phone call from one of his friends he told them they can go to Turkey next year and use our home out there for nothing. When my OH told him this is not on he got in a temper and his reply to enerything is i am a old man and can do what i like. Next year my in-laws are 80 and our children have already told us we are not going to the party because he will not be happy with what ever we do for them.O what to do with this men

I had a Father in law like him. Refused to give his daughter away when we got married, her brother did it. F-I-L never spoke to me ever, he did not even talk to our children - his own grandchildren.
When he died I was asked if I was going to the funeral - I replied "only if I get the shovel"

God help your MIL. He sounds like a right old b...er. He must have always been nasty to a degree. Just tell his friends sorry but he never asked you and it is not his to decide..

I was very lucky both In laws were great although MIL did get a bit cantankerous in her later last two years but i put this down to her being very ill and drugged up to the hilt in hospital She was in for 6 months in their local hosptialt and then transferred to an old peoples hospital and we didnt expect her to come home again.
i just bit my lip when she was a bit orf and told myself I,m not going to fall out with her after all this time. Both of then died in their 80,s

My FIL is 96, and will be joining us for Christmas day. He lives in sheltered housing nearby, and the staff there rave about how lovely he is. Shame he isn't always as nice and accommodating towards his family! Luckily OH's sister is coming down too, and she can 'handle' him better than OH!!

My MIL was a lovely lady and we lost her much too soon. My FIL was the originally grumpy old man who could be very unpleasant when he wanted to be although he was a very interesting man who was instrumental in me starting the family tree. He mellowed in his later years and I miss him very much since he passed away.
