When asked by Blue Cross what sort of a dog we wanted - I wrote down - four legs and a tail (if it had had 3 legs that would have been OK). Just googled there are West Highland Terriers Rehoming Centres.

The last two dogs we had were rescue dogs, as was the first. Although one had been difficult to home we had no trouble with him, he was a devoted family member and would always go to the door with me and growl if I obviously didnt want the cold caller. If we could walk a dog now we would still have a rescue dog. There are pedigree dogs in homes as well.

Aww Jane thats sad, and yes l quite agree with you about the non pedigree dogs desperate for homes, l'm sort of trying to persuade her to look at these as well, l know once she has a pup in her arms no matter what the breed (aslong as its not going to be BIG), she'll love it!!!
So you have a nutter aswell, are'nt they lovely:o))...lol

Jude , my sister has paid hundreds and hundreds of pounds for 2 Spanish Water Dogs. The first one bless him is a sandwich short of a picnic and has a protruding tongue. The second one Molly suddenly turned on the other dogs and she had to have her put down .She knows what I think about her paying all that money ,but I just bite my tongue and say nothing lol.
I loved my first rescue dog Dodger, who sadly we only had for 4 years, and Chester (rescue) who is now 11 and a complete nutter lol.I always think it is so sad there are so many lovely dogs out there desperate for a loving home.

Makes the mind boggle does'nt it, what people will do for money!!

l have suggested she puts her name down at the rspca.....this time of year bitches have pups that the owners can't look after, they're might be a westie litter, but will also get her to look at the right sites, infact l might do some looking myself :o)

Thanks guys:o)

Jude ,How ever much I wanted a puppy I wouldn't touch an ad like that with a barge pole lol
I hope your friend can go to a reputable breeder if she wants a pedigree ,or even better try an persuade her to go to a rescue centre..You can't beat a good rescue dog.

Jude
Very good advice you gave your friend.
Never buy a puppy without seeing it first. Not a photo but visit the breeder.
She would do best to look at breeders who specialise in Westies.

Many years ago we bought a Golden retriever. My husband visited first and when I went we could see the mother and one of the aunts. They were such a lovely temperament and that confirmed we were buying the right dog.
We had to wait about three weeks before we could bring the puppy home.
I hope she finds the right dog after Christmas,
Take care

There are also rescues - quite a few specialise in a particular breed of dogs e.g. Greyghound rescue, know there are lots of others may well be westies.

Very wise Jude. I beleive it was Puss who was caught out or nearly caught out by a scam like this.

Lampeter (sp) in Wales......
advertised as, words to this effect.....

12-13 weeks old. Giving up breeding so need to sell the last 3 westie pups quickly. £250 includes the PUP, crate, the cost of delivery, inoculations, chipped, registration cert, etc........

My friend wants a westie pup and wasl ooking on the net last night....she rang to tell me what she had found (the above)...very excited. The photo looked gorgeous, she had already chosen the name:o).

She emailed the man to say she wanted to wait til after christmas because it was'nt fair and to save up, got a reply offering her £150 cheaper. He said he would pay the delivery of the crate!!!
l suggested she thought about this because it was too good to be true and think about the poor little thing travelling all that way in a crate.

Also there are lot of puppy farms in Wales and not to trust them.

She rang him and asked 3 questions.....1) Vets name and address 2) The delivery people name etc and something else, can't remember.

He did'nt give her the answers and fortnately she has realised she may not receive a puppy at all or it could be a very poorly one, in other words a SCAM.

She waiting until after christmas now!!
