What a shame, poor thing.

Reindeer killed on Norfolk road

A mother reindeer was killed at the weekend after she had escaped from a Norfolk farm.


The reindeer, called Cupid, was one of six of the festive animals kept at Melsop Farm Park in Scoulton, near Hingham, hired out for events and occasions.

Together with a stag and her baby, Dasher Junior, she had escaped through an unlocked gate at about 10am on Saturday.

Attempts had been made to retrieve the three deer and two were recovered. Cupid, however, died after she was hit by a Peugeot car on the B1108 Norwich road at about 2.30pm.

Keith Stone, 49, who has run the family attraction for about 10 years, said: “There was nothing we could do. We tried our hardest to get her back and had half a dozen people out there trying at one stage but they are wild animals and can be very lively.”

Police confirmed the incident.

Its a shame poor things.
We live in a ruralish area and monkjack deers are always popping out from the hedges on to the main roads, never hit one yet thankfully but they are very fast and unpredictable and dash into the road, a bit like rabbits do.

We get a lot of deer on the Esex roads around Chelmsford and Ongar and I've had a couple of near misses at dusk, one on the motorbike which could have been very dodgy.
