Lots of us think about our departed loved ones

at Christmas time, but talking to my friend today we were discussing the "loss" of living relatives, as both of us having no contact with a sibling/siblings for one reason or another.

We also realised amongst our friends that sadly we are not the only ones.

It is so sad that someone you loved and grew up with is no longer a part of your life. Maybe a New Years resolution!!

Sorry to hear that, you know what they say.....You can choose your friends but not your family! So I hope you have a lot of nice friends to celebrate xmas with.

I have a younger brother and we were close. However when he remarried, his second wife managed in less than a year to stop all contact with me, his BIL, niece and nephew. There were only the two of us.

Well, here goes...

I haven't had any contact with my brother for over 20 years, but we've finally broken the ice by e mail and are going to meet up on the Monday after Christmas.

It guess it'll work out - two pig-headed people have finally decided that life's too short. I hope.

Sue............I hope it works out for you.......I think that is a big part of the problem.......wanting or having to take the first step, but you are right life is too short and I know if anything happened to my siblings I would be devastated.

Chris...........SNAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Ann

Our early life was characterized by "one of you will cut the cake, the other one will chose their slice first". Such was the wisdom of mum - and such was the sibling rivalry which drove us apart.

I really hope there's no Yorkshire Puddings on offer when we meet up - no doubt we'll quarrel about who gets the biggest one! I'll try and remember to be charitable.......
