I don't really care who runs the Post Office as long as we get our post on time. We use to have a really good service years ago. This morning the 23rd December my daughter received a birthday card posted in the UK (400 miles away) on the 14th December posted first class, her birthday was the 15th December! I know Christmas is a busy time, but this is rediculous.

Never said they did gA
I think Rita's comment immediatly above yours sums my opinion up quite nicely as well but I would emphasis ANY Government.

Re:the Benefits system,I agree with you totally, however it will be even harder now more people won't be persuing further education & will be flooding the jobs market.

Back to the original question, you have to wonder what will happen when all of this countries assets have been sold off...but for now I still say, No not the Post Office!

I think the problem dates to back to the point when the PO stopped being a service and started being a business.

Exy, the conservatives never reigned the whole of the 70's if you do your homework!
& the bulk of the things you have listed, continued all the while the Labour lot were in power....nothing changed much!!

What I do like tho I have to say about the now Coalition Gov lot, is that they want to get lazy backsides off the couch, you know, those that want to sponge off the benefits system all day long (those fit enough to work but know how to play the system) and get them out to work and off benefits! I'm all for that....

Back to the original question, No it shouldn't be sold off!!

rita your right who do we vote for do you think we could start a new party and can i be treasurer please my hubbie says im great at spending money !!!!!!!! but on a more serious note what will be left for our children that makes them stand out as british a britain without a identity maybe thats what the goverment wants de identifie us and we just become european keep everything thats british thats my thinking

TheBlackKnight

TheBlackKnight Report 22 Dec 2010 18:00

It wasn't directed at you Rita-I just don't want it sold off, whoever is in Government seems too eager to privatise at the cost of a public service.
Whoever is in Government seems to spend years "putting right" what their predesor (sp) has done (how they want things) & then bringing in legislation ready for the next Government to put "right".All that happens is the Public loses out during these "power games"

Brenda Report 22 Dec 2010 01:32

why is it that we have any buisnes run by the goverment we are told theire is no profit being made and its grants grants all round but as soon as we sell amazeing its profit profit look at BT and BP just to mention a few so lets keep what we have and put in a decent management who will treat tax payers like share holders

TheBlackKnight

TheBlackKnight Report 22 Dec 2010 01:05

The cost you say is going up and I agree, but how much do you think the cost will go up if a private company take it over? Lots

The post office is part of our own heritage. So much of our heritage has been sold off already, I think we should keep the Post Office.

The Post office is not just about delivering letters. You can pay your bills, Save money, buy goods, get different forms like car tax etc, and much more.
Some people depend on the Local Post Office a great deal for what ever reason.
How would you feel if your own Post Office was to be closed down?

night night

Merlin Report 21 Dec 2010 13:54

I blame the last bloke who ran it, He used to run the FA. now he,s turned the Post Office into The Same" and moved on somewhere else to ruin that company whilst earning a vast amount of money as a Bonus for doing it.Plus they have to deliver Junk mail etc at less than cost for the other Private Mail operators. **M**.

If the last conservative government was so bad, how come I managed to get from a grotty two bed terraced house to a four bed detached in the space of ten years and double the family income, whereas under the last labour government I was made redundant, lost a quarter of my pension and saw my savings halved.

The problem with the Royal Mail, is that it is bankrupt, losing business to cheaper and more efficient organisations, and has a massive pension fund defecit which unless something is done about it will mean that their employees face a bleak future in retirement as they won't be able to get paid what they are expecting.

The price of of postage is going up again next year by more than 10% and is still insufficient to cover costs. At this rate it won't be long before it will be £1 to post a letter.

And of course the last government sat back and did absolutely nothing.

Looking at the world today just reminds me what the conserative party did in the 1970s.
Selling everything off
Company's going oversea's
Small companys being forced to close
Cuts made everywhere apart from the sectors that should be cut, (Fat cats pockets)

The number of
Union Strikes on the up
Crime on the up
Homeless on the up
Jobless on the up
Poverty on the up
Interest rates on the up
Cost of liveing on the up

Maybe now they are just continuing what they started in the 1970s. Trouble is when do the people that put them in power say.... Enough No more? Don't say you can't because you can. You voted them in and can vote them out.

Night night

NO, NO ,NO
plain & simple, NO.

For too long our own goverments have been selling our own heritage.
We have so little left we should tell them, Enough is enough No more selling off this that or the other, Keep what little we have, Remember the goverment can be voted out as well as voted in.

Very soon every service we have in this country will be under the control of foreign owners, it's scary, and demoralising and wrong. We need to keep businesses British and make sure they make a profit which benefits us not companies overseas.

I am sure it's like many businesses, too many chiefs and not enough Indians so that other businesses take on the most lucrative parts of the company and Royal Mail lose out. Until they can get all their staff to do the job properly and not use it as a way of getting to cash in envelopes or things they can sell on (not all postmen just a few ) or those who don't even take out packages but put a note in the address saying pick up your own package (when often the recipient is at home and could have taken the package in) and many ruses to short cut the job or make money on the side, they will lose out.

I have had post left in a field not through my door (and I live in a city, not the country) things damaged during delivery i.e. books bent in half in the bundles carried by posties, and stuff lost for six months or more before being delivered.

Think of the savings if they reused the red rubber bands instead of leaving them in the street, Royal Mail should be fined for littering the pavements of our streets.
