Snowballs - those fizzy drinks made with Advocaat and lemonade ...

Those flattish glasses with Babycham and a cherry on a stick ...

Going to Midnight Mass with mum when I was very very young and wanting to run back home in case Santa wouldn't stop as we were not at home. (Talk about mixed messages - no wonder I've spent most of my adult life in a confused muddle!)

There was one year - I was a very small child at the time - when half of the extended family stayed at my parents' house. All the children slept in two single beds (top to tail). All the women slept in the double bed in mum and dad's room and all the men slept on lilos on the front room floor. All went reasonably well until some chap let down some other chap's lilo then all hell broke loose. It was funny though ... !

I think that was the same year that most of said extended family did "Knees up Mother Brown" in the front room. (We are not talking a HUGE room, just your average semi-det size.) And I remember it as being hot and exhausting but I don't think I stopped laughing at all that day ...

Jill, what good memories

I remember as a child going next door to the elderly couple on xmas morning to pick a chocolate off the tree and collect the sweet stocking that they bought us each year,

The year that I was bought a huge amount of lego and meccano to add to what I already had ...and not being allowed near it because my Dad and Uncle played all afternoon with it !

Sunday school xmas carol service when Dad and same Uncle after a few drinks decided to sing the descant version of the 1st Noel and went horribly wrong.
A year later the same pair sang a different version to God rest ye Merry Gentlemen and continued a verse too many (5 children had to hide their heads)

The year we were at friends and I woke up xmas day with mega toothache and cried all morning whilst our hosts had to try and locate me an emergency dentist ....then the hair-raising drive to make a 45min drive in 25mins to get me there in time.

There was also the year that I got up early to sneak a preview of the presents under the tree and found my Mum there 1st. mmmmm.

On the sad side I remember taking presents with Mum to Dr. Barnados and 1 little girl in tears at her present ..the reason ....she couldn;t believe the doll was all hers as she had never had anything of her own before.

Merry Xmas everyone.......bah humbug also
