I have been given 7 albums of family pictures from my Mother in law, some of the pictures going back to the late 1800s. I pretty sure most people would be bored and just shove them in the attic, but not me. |

Magic - I inherited one like that - no names or dates but have managed over years with a large magnifying glass to name them with the exception of 3 photos of a very beautiful young lady. Enjoy!!!! |

I always find it sad when I see old family photos at flea fairs etc. I was fortunate, my father had a camera from the 20s so I have a lot of his photos, some named some not. But he would never have thrown photos out thank goodness. I was annoyed though. When he was in the nursing home we took him one of his scrap books to look at. he had made one up called 'fashion'. There were some great photos in it. It got 'lost' while he was there, never did find it. |

And there is a lesson to us all, over the years I have writing on back of all my photo's who they are, and please don't just write grandad grandma etc. Lucky you Susan wish I had inherited an album like that. unfortunately because my parents were divorced my mothers new family had all her photo's and they were destroyed. |

I'm enjoying looking at them, their is one celeb connected to us which nobody else believed was ours but I have worked out who he is related to but can't say cos he is still living, and not giving me permission to put him on here. |

Don't forget to write on the back of your photos who took the photo. |

Thanks SueMaid, I hadn't thought of that but will do it as that is just as useful, but it must be done in pencil, pen leeches it's way through, although I haven't yet found a pencil dark enough to be able to read it easily. |

hi susan, my aunty sent me a whole box of old photos to help me with several family trees. what i did was scan them all and then sort them into different family files on the computer. then i sent them back to her. now i can sit and look at them, enlarge them, and print some out when ever i want. |

Try using a 4b pencil for writing on the reverse. You won't have to press too hard and it should be dark enough to read. |
