Many moons ago, at school, I made a raffia lampshade. The choice was make a rug or a lampshade. I began to regret my choice very soon.!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was tedious and time consuming and I used to dread the first two lessons on Tuesday morning. :>))

Perhaps raffia and wicker taste like grass Maggie.

LOL I had a raffia bag last year. I used it once, went to use it again, only to find the cats had chewed it to pieces!!!!
Must be something about woven things - they've nearly destroyed a wicker chair too.

Shopping bags made with raffia wound round the old cardboard milk bottle tops and then sewn together.

I had a present that was tied with orange raffis and it reminded me of having raffia in primary school to make things...... such as winding it round cardboard milk bottle tops that had holes in the middle for the straw. (small bottles in school).
