hi everyone , has anyone on here heard of a place called latstaw ime realy puzzled as to where this could be? it has come up on the 1911 census my grt grandmother annie read being born latstaw 1876, but on the 1901 census she was born bethnal green london, ide be greatful if anyone could shed some light on this thankyou keith.

nothing jumping out from baptisms...but there is an Annie Read , father John , on 1881 census...Leytonstone...say that quickly and you could get 'Latstaw'... the John on that record was a bricklayers labourer born Bethnal green

Keith no he wouldn't , that is just the area as such.

Though mothers may have given birth in the workhouse rather than at home, that would be because it was the only 'medical' service available not necessarily because they were inmates.
