I invited two people to lunch on Tuesday. On Monday at 1pm,I opened the door in my scruffy apron, hair awry, no lippy...and there they were, laden with flowers and presents....eeeeeekkkkkkkkkk!!!!!!

Was it you or your guests who made the mistake? I well remember inviting friends for lunch and they didn't turn up. Two days later they arrived, smiling and totally unaware they had made a mistake about the day:-))

Sue, thank goodness it was their mistake. While they were taking their coats off I scrambled on to my laptop to check the date! lol The next problem, was how to cook my lamb shanks in half an hour instead of four hours!!

Honestly at the end of the day..........if this had been two of my TRUE friends, we would have sat down to beans on toast and just made the most of it!!!

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 29 Dec 2010 21:16

Hope you all had a good laugh:-) The best meals are those that are put together from bits and pieces with good friends and lots of wine.

Quite right PH, but one of my guests was 98 so beans on toast wouldnt have been appropriate:-) Yes Sue, when they recovered from the shock, we all had a good laugh and lots to drink. lol BC XX

ButtercupFields

ButtercupFields Report 29 Dec 2010 21:28

Well, Prickly, I have a certain standard to maintain y'know....boilly egg and soldiers for lunch? I don't think so:-)) BCXX

PricklyHolly

PricklyHolly Report 29 Dec 2010 21:46

Ah, that is where i beg to differ.........my true friends would not be interested in my maintaining standard's...they would be more interested in our friendship, boilly egg and soldier's or not! lol but true.

BC do tell! What did you give them for lunch? Or did you all just drink your way through your supply of Baileys until the lamb shanks were cooked?

ButtercupFields

ButtercupFields Report 29 Dec 2010 22:19

Well Ann, I shoved onions and garlic and a bottle of red wine and stock into a saucepan....then I microwaved the shanks, one by one, and plopped them back in the sauce and glugged a can of butter beans in...all the while filling up the dragonlady's glass and fanning her....lol...I also had some prawns and did a starter. You know how conventional old ladies can be...but she was delighted, bless her. Didn't like the thoughts that she had been forgetful...BC XX.

Have to admit, if ANYONE is coming round, they phone me when they're leaving their house - even if it's just to pick me up - in case one of us has got the wrong date/time.
Also means I can remove the vast amount of cat fur tumbleweed blowing across the living room before they arrive (SiL is allergic to cats!) and one cat in particular likes to 'style' her long fur 'a la poodle' if she is scared by anything.
But, well done Shona!!!
