I was very surprised to say the least on finding out about his death. Its such a pity that we lost all those years we could have been in touch.
But then back in the 1950s we did not have computors etc to find out things sadly.

keep well and god bless.

Oh that's interesting tho Ann, I wonder what happened after your Mum and Nan left Malta that they didn't stay in contact. You must have been very surprised to find out about his death in 1961.

Hope you one day get the chance to go back and check things out.

Hi Liz,
Not exactly 'malta connections' Liz.
My grandad served in malta in the british army before and during WW1. my nan and mum were with him until the outbreak of war when they came home. Nothing else was heard of grandad and I presumed or was perhaps told that he had died.
When In started on my family tree a couple of years ago I found out that he had in fact died in hertfordshire in 1961!!! By then my mum had also died so I could not ask her about it.
We went for a family holiday to malta some years ago but I had not started my tree then and only wanted to go to see where my mum had been.I would love to go back some time to really check it out.
Anyway enough of my twittering.

best wishes, Ann

Do you have Maltese connections too then Ann?

I dread the phone ringing and hearing she has passed away. She has chronic leukeamia and has been medicated for that for more than a year but was rushed into hospital in October with something else that I can't remember, and is now. to quote my son's aunt, living on borrowed time. She mustn't do a thing in the house and until a couple of years ago was still cooking and doing lots of chores, bless her.

Happy New Year to you

Liz, Thank you for your reply.

Its such a shame about your sons grandmother. I bet she could tell a few very interesting stories. I so wish I had asked a lot more years ago when the people that could have given me answers were still here, but well thats life.

Have a happy new year and thank you again.

Ann

If you google Malta and British Army WW1 there are lots of sites with various info, Ann

I wish my son's Maltese grandmother could speak better English as she was a teenager in WW2, she is now 83 and very ill so will never be able to hear her stories even if we could get them translated.
