I was underwater!
A dozen of us from our dive club spent the witching hour 20 metres down in Wastwater, Lake District England.
Surfaced to drink lots of mulled wine and champers, cheered by someone setting off fireworks on top of the overlooking mountain.

Great for us - but hell for the couple who wanted a romantic new Millenium and had parked their caravan in the same car park we used.

New years Eve 1999 we spent here at home with our daughter and 3 Grandsons, joining neighbours at midnight for fireworks etc.

New years day 2000 we all walked on a very frosty day over Cleeve Hill near Cheltenham listening to the church bells ringing. magical family times.

We decide to take a Millenium break in a Hotel inFolkestone Kent where our daughter worked as a booking clerk at the time. took a three night break which included a cabaret and New Year celebration in the ballroom and had a lovely time. Our daughter spent the New Years Eve with her two grown up children and her partner who is now her hubby and we went to theirs on New Years Day.
The New Year though wasnt that good tho as my brother died in April 2000

During the evening of 31st I went to a gathering by the War memorial in a nearby town.
The Moot Horn presented to the town in 1592 was played to herald in the new year.
At midnight we were at home, but went outside and greeted neighbours. Some, who we didn't really know that well brought out a tray of champagne for everyone and a plate of buffet food.
It felt like people were hopeful of new beginnings and better things to come.
On the morning of 1st, with daughters and young grandson I went to the sea, where a short service was held as we waited for the sun to rise over the Channel.
Then, as today, we didn't actually see a sunrise, it just gradually became light, which was slighlty disappointing, but I will always remember the occasion.

I was at home with my husband, Daughter then aged 9, Son aged 18 months and Brother-in-law sister-in-law and their Children aged 7 and 2 years.

I went to Norwich's offering for New Year and to greet the Millenium, it was a disaster, too many people allowed to gather in a small area by the City Hall so it was a danger and a crush, the laser lights were pathetic and I think the fireworks were cancelled due to wind in the wrong direction, they usually let them off from the Castle mound area. That might have been a different year tho as it's so long ago I can't quite recall.

All in all, a real disappointment and seemed to set the tone for the coming millenium for me lol

I was on the South Beach in Miami,live bands including the Gypsy Kings,the biggest firework display I have ever seen,
the next day Jan 1st,going for a swim in my families outdoor pool.
I did think of everyone in freezing cold Britain.lol!!!!!!!!!!

l went to firework display in Southwick Sussex and saw the new in with friends in that area:o))

I always thought Shepherds Bush was in London........well it was when i lived there

I took part in a so-called millenium concert. It is just a pity that most people throughout the world celebrated the millenium a year too early, at the end of one thousand nine hundred and ninety nine years instead of at the end of 2 thousand years.

Today (Saturday 1st Jan) is the first day of the second decade of the 3rd millenium.

Nothing wrong with my counting.

We had a big fancy dress party at home , everyone made a stunning effort and guests included " Queen Victoria and Mr Brown " ( aka my parents ) ; The Pied Piper and a large Rat : Marie AnToinette ; A mummy ; + many more ......... a fun time was had by all ......lol

31/12/1999 I was at work on night shift

Hope you are okay.

In 1999, the UK was preparing for the countdown to the new millennium.
The scale of the celebrations ranged from large organised events, to street parties to an evening at home watching TV news from around the world.

Despite rain, millions packed the banks of the Thames in London Thames for funfairs, music, and street entertainment from 1100GMT until 0200GMT New Year's Day.

Celebrations around the world started at 1000 GMT as the Chatham Islands, Tonga, Fiji and Kiribati experienced the new millennium first.

The people of Samoa had to wait 25 hours more as the millennium arrived there last of all.
