My ancestry is up for renewal in a months time and am also thinking of looking at find my past unless you have most expensive subscription on ancestry you are unable to access a lot of info

Mandy that has solved my thoughts - wondering whether to join Ancestery or Find My Past!

I tried to get into 1911 census but no luck after trying for over an hour gave up .also ancestry not working today although I pay for subscription it keeps telling me to upgrade and that is just for bmd .

It was a very kind gesture, but I suspect GR assumed many more people would prefer to be partying than being on their computers and were thus massively overloaded; however, I appreciated it, and was lucky in that I managed to download 10 census images in between the "maintainance" breaks. In several cases, because the view download seemed to hang, I then clicked on "download image", trusting that it was the correct one - in each case the jpg downloaded in seconds, and I was able to view it that way.
I got some useful and interesting info, including one bit that shows one grandfather's first wife apears to have run off with a cinema attendant and had a couple of children with him! Of course, if she hadn't run off, he wouldn't have met his second wife, and I wouldn't be writing this....... ;-)

I got nothing from the records...so disapointed !!!
I tried to get into the 1911 census it was "loading " for over an hour,so I gave up.
Right load of rubbish.

what gr should of done is do a day free or if not all day free, at least a few hours as the world and his wife were all doing the same thing at the same time, i only managed to get 4 records and that was down to sheer purserverance, i would of loved to get more info

Very disappointed - high expectation following invite to join GR NYE Party for 2 hour delve into records - constant SORRY message - maintenance !! work - perhaps GR would like to have another special offer - without necessary maintenance!

I gave up after 15mins, I thought it was due to the influx of everyone trying to get on to the site.

Did get two records but gave up after it kept coming up with SORRY we are doing maintenance work, couldn't even sign out of GR, will do now !

I viewed and printed off info and census pages for 5 households. It took me over 2 hours. I think GR kept it open for longer because of all the problems.
