Last Friday, after my usual M***sons shop, scaled down, and finding their coffee shop full, we carried on down to ? & ?, "you can do it,if you ?& ? it ", where they have a chuck wagon on the car park. Suitably refreshed, we ventured inside. They had a trolly full of Bromilaid plants (indoors), at £9.99. I hung my nose over them, but as I was going out looking for Orchids over the weekend, decided not to buy.
This morning, the OH has been in there, and they were reduced to £4.99, so he treated me to two.
Glad I waited now, and he paid for them aswell.LOLOL

Ann, I either keep them in the conservatory or the living room. I do have a little heat in the conservatory, but non in the greenhouse. But, I'm afraid the living room is now being host to the Orchids, thanks to Jean (Monmouth) LOL

Hi Golden Girl 1. During last summer, when in one of my favourite garden centres, and queing to pay, on the side was a barrow, with a few plants in, that obviously needed some TLC. There was a Bromilaid for £2., So of course I had to have it. LOL. Only now, is the flower beginning to look alittle worse for wear, but it does look as if I may get some cuttings off it. Who knows, it may sport another flower.
Merling, you little rogue you, I am afraid your reference to Miss Blandish is a little beyond my ken today. Please babes, elucidate. LOLOL

We used to keep a lot of plants in the conservatory which isn't heated except for a fan on low when the temp drops below a certain level. However, since we had our walls cavity filled the conservatory doesn't get any residual heat from the house and remains very cold so the plants we can keep out there are limited.

Ann in Glos, have you tried Cyclamen in your conservatory. I find mine kept in there, arn't too fussed about heat. When they have finished flowering in the spring, take them down to the greenhouse and keep abit on the dry side. Then about Sept, start to water and bring them back to the conservatory, for another winter season.
Similarly, what about African Violets. You can take leaf cuttings from them, to increae your stock.
I bought both yesterday, all of which were in unusual colour arrangements.

Hi Julia, yes OH has a bowl with three cyclamens in in the conservatory, they aee m to be doing OK. He is also overwintering his geraniums (Ivy) and they don't seem to mind it cold, also strangely the winter flowering cacti seem to be thriving. I never seem to be very lucky with African violets, goodness knows why.

My geraniums in a cold greenhouse, sheltered by a tent of fleece, seem to be OK so far, but I think I have lost the extra Streptocarpus that I put in there. I was only growing them to give away, so no loss really.
It is worth buying Orchids that are at a knockdown price because the flower is nearly over. Some patience and care and they will flower again. I have a yellow one I bought like that and when in flower it will last for 6months.
