Does anyone know of a website that prints the history of a persons surname?

My partner would really like his surname in print but I have not been able to locate a good site for such a thing.

Can anyone help me please, thank you. Emily

Some years ago there was a company that used to have a stand in various shopping centres. They would trace your surname and its history and present it printed on a scroll in a nice frame .
I was always a bit wary of them as it seemed that no matter what the surname they always included a family coat of arms.
My wife had one done for me, and I must say that the derivation and origins on the scroll tallied with my research.
There was also a coat of arms included, but goodness knows where it came from - there were certainly no aristocracy, or even a "Sir", anywhere in my tree.
Nevertheless, I have it hung up on the wall in my study ( well ok then, in the spare bedroom - perhaps the coat of arms is giving me ideas above my station).
David.

Apparently that's the biggest con of all David. Very few families have a true family crest or coat of arms. Having said that - they do look nice.
