If you only rejoined last year and got a 12mth membershio then you were lucky as it's been 6mths since February 2007.

Must admit to being confused myself and thought that
if I took a years membership (as I did) last year it would
continue but as I say my fault for not changing to continuous.

I thought that was what Emma meant also. Hopefully they have not taken annual membership away from those who have always had it on continuous.

I misunderstood you as I thought you were commenting at the beginning of the thread that you should have been given a year's membership, but if you were only renewing a 6mth subscription then it stays at 6mths.

It doesn't matter whether you're on continuous or single as long as it's renewed within 4 weeks of the date.

I was thinking I was going to have mine reduced to 6mths but it appears not.

Hello Christine have only been back to GR for a year and
noticed that am not on continuous membership, it did not
run out till 15th Jan this year but wanted to renew early incase
I forgot, so my fault for not being on continuous, will know
next time.

I wonder when they have changed it because it still gives details of annual in the help pages under Subscription Renewals?

"If you have an annual membership and renew it 2 weeks before and up to 4 weeks after your renewal date you do have the option to go for just one year's membership. Or you can opt for continuous membership where we will automatically take payment from your card the following year. If you renew your annual membership over 4 weeks after the renewal date, your renewal will be valid for 6 months.

If you joined the site after February 2007 and have 6 months membership, then your renewal will continue to be for 6 months."

I think if I was you I would contact them again quoting the reference above.

Surely if they're cutting the time given by half they should have notified you.

Yes you should still get the discount if you are on single membership, the only difference between continuous and single is that they do it automatically if you're on continuous.

This is what it says in the account details page.

Continuous membership means we will continue your membership for you at a discounted rate of 20% automatically, but we will email you in advance to notify you.

If you choose single membership we will let you know when your paid membership expires. If you let your membership expire for more than 4 weeks you will not receive your 20% discount if you later choose to continue your membership.

Have they also charged you £9.95 and only for 6mths?

If Shelley only has a 6mth membership then all details will show as 6mths. I have a yearly one as I joined in 2006.

Gold and Platinum are both 6mths.

I remember seeing before that some people had been reduced to 6mths but it was an error and GR rectified it.

Thank you all for your replies. I usually pay by cheque £9.95 for 6 months at at time, so yes Tootyfruity it is good value at £7.96 for 6 months. (provided they don't put the price up in 6 months time)!!
Emma I checked with the Subscription Option site and all the options, were for 6 months only, I hope you get the results you want from Genes, perhaps they're not doing a 12 month option anymore? Be interesting to know the outcome of this.
My cheque will be in the post tomorrow for £7.96 (bank hol. up here is Scotland today).

Since Brightsolid took over they are offering all it's current members a 20% discount if they renew before it just runs out.

I think it is a very good gesture

Have just renewed mine about 5mins. ago and there
is a notice under the other payments for cheque, I took it
to mean 20% of that as well, got my receipt but it does
not say how much they have charged me.

Genes recently e-mailed me with an offer (anyone else had this)? of 20% discount when I renew my membership this month. Does this only apply to credit/debit card payments, as I normally pay by cheque?
