I need a rant

UzziAndHerDogs Report 5 Jan 2011 19:07

I hate fireworks, I hate even more people who set them off next door to me earlier than I expect ...actually why set them off at all that close to anybody.

I have spent more than an hour calming my 2 down ..with both of them trying to get in the same 'hidey hole' . So I had Minx shaking in my arms with a pillow over her head. Other dogs I counted at least 4 howling with in a 6 van area. Including theirs !!!
I am so bluddy annoyed with my neighbours they are so thoughtless, New Years Eve they blocked the road off and had a BBQ /fire and whole family (whole family is all of those who live elsewhere as well, so includes Mum and dad next door plus son and wife next door to them and another 6 children with wives and kids) gathering outside us. I didn't mind that but I object to the unwanted from the BBQ being dropped on the floor. So each day I have to drag bones and prawn bits out of my dogs mouths.
Arghhhhh I just need to scream ...ARRRRGGGGHHHHHHH

Thankyou

rant away Uzzi,

People are thoughtless especially where fireworks are concerned.

I do not have pets but the poor dogs round here howl in November and new year when Fireworks are set off.

Thanks Teresa, I did sort of expect fireworks but NOT at 6.50pm and not direct overhead.
(Today is Spains like xmas eve)
I hate to say it because I have moved to this country but my Spanish neighbours are really unthoughtful
One of the sons still living at home used to work at the local vets as a groomer //hence their dog ....but does it stop the rest of them NO

I was told about my dogs barking when I 1st moved here ...sedate them ..#

I now know what they mean and NO WAY would I sedate them unless needed

Arghhhhh I'm off sorry I am so annoyed

Dont be sorry Uzzi,

some countries have different ways of looking after their animals, they are not always classed as one of the family as they are here.

My Sister has two dogs, one died in the summer and we were all sad, she now has a new Puppy now all fluffy and rather big, a long haired alsation who is 12 weeks old and has very sharp puppy teeth. Lol
Her other dog who is the same breed thinks it is her puppy and mothers it a bit.

Uzzi, did you know about the family before you moved or have they come as a bad surprise? It would have been good if they'd warned you that theyw ere going to let off fireworks early. The Spanish do like their fireworks don't they, it is the same in Tenerife.

I thought it was bad enough in England with any excuse to let them off but it sounds worse there! Some go really overboard, especially at Bonfire Night and where I used to live this family round the back of our house had these REALLY big fireworks, with loads of the sticks left from them in our back garden. One went up so high it flew over the top of our house, and turned round and hit our front window!! Frightened us and frightened our little dog (who was scared to start off with).
They should ban the things, or just keep them to public displays.

Dolly after being here for 6yrs I am getting used to when they are going to let fireworks off, but that one was a complete surprise. After the major fire onsite earlier this year I am surprised that anyone let off fireworks so close to the vans.

Ann I knew the 2 families were in fulltime residence before I moved, but I didn't realise that they were related or so bad about blocking the road off for their use. Nor did I realise there was so many off them land every weekend lol

Oh dear Uzzi

I am so sorry to read about hw upset your dogs are when there are fireworks n=being set off. I also live in Spain, ahve two cocker Spaniels and we have lots of fireworks set off throughout the year. Personall I love fireworks and always have. Jet & Joe, my dogs do not like the noise either but I have on the advice of the Vet always given them a mild sedative. It doesn't make them fall asleep and they hide under my bed but it does seem to help them. Surely that must be better than being so distressed.
It seems to me that rather like people some dogs do not minf=d the fire works and others hate them.

Of course I do not know how it must be living on a site where there are caravans, have you talked to other site members to hear their views annd suggestions.
A hug from me for your dog and you

SpanishEyes, Hi there fellow expat.

I have to admit that if I had known how bad it was going to be I might have been tempted to sedate them but I would have been caught out as I would never have expected the fireworks to have gone off so early in the evening 6.47pm (or there abouts). Previous years we lived over the other side of the campsite and the fireworks were all in the distance.

I do know from one other English resident further up that the family next door are the proverbial pain in the butt and pretty much get their own way as most of the vans around them are holiday or summer homes. The site can't do a great deal as they own their parcela. Can't really talk to them as they have NO english and my spanish is muy poco plus I don't want to get into a war with them as I only rent this van. Annoyingly one of the sons does speak english as he used to be the dog groomer at our vets but I rarely see him anywhere.
It's a farce really the mum insists on cleaning her mats on MY fence then wonders why MY dogs bark at her. When they are all sat outside they won't move out of the way if you want to go past and neither of my mutts are happy with strange people plus the oldest is a child hater so I have to be careful of their young kids. (there is a 3/4yr old 2 doors away) often I end up walking the long way round just to get past.
At the moment we have 2 planters tucked over our fence in the corner .....I'm wondering if she has given them to me or is just using us for storage ! Mind if they are there next week I am going to move them and plant them, then I will say gracias with a smile.

Oh boy I have just ranted again ....sorrryyyyyyy

Wow Uzzi, I'm glad I don't live on a caravan site! That family next door sounds really ignorant. Sounds like they are deliberately trying to wind you up.
Can't you rent a van elsewhere on the site? Or is that not possible?
Just a suggestion.
Good luck to you.

Oh my goodness Uzzi I had no idea how bad hings are otherwise I would noot have been quite so pedantic so please forgive me. we live about a third of a way up what the locals call the mountain wnd we call the steep hill/ Many people have dogs really for protecion from people thinking we may be out or we may be away for the day etc. so our dogs are gurad dogs as well as our pets. Jet will bark at anyone but hasn't got a bad bone in his body and a biscuit will soon make him quiet and as for Joe as long as someone plays ball he is happy. Neither will tolerate anyone walking to close to the wall around the house but as we are almost at the end of a cul de sac not many people go by.
I cannot imagine living everyday with such ill mannered people and like evrywhere else in the world Spanish people can be absolutley charming or very ignorant.
what a pity you cannot move else where on the site or even to another site.

Perhaps it would be better foryour dogs if you spoke to the Vet about what would help the dogs the best. When we do sedate ours it doesn;t actuall Knock them out but they becomea little less interested in the noise and calm down somewhat

I hope you get some peace soon

Take care
