I put our ex dir.home tel and both our mobiles on the telephone preference site some time ago. We dont get many nuisance calls being Ex dir .number withheld and tel wont accept calls either where the number is also withheld,
Blocks most nuisance calls although can't block calls originating outside the UK.
Just got a supposedly "we doing a survey" call I cut em off pretty quick with we are on the tel preference and you shouldn,t be calling this number.Did 1471 and got the number and decide to report it online.
Well discovered they have done an update somewhere and sometime and all old numbers previously registered have to re register.
So if any of you have registered before best to check you are still covered.

Thank you - always worth knowing.

Even though we are on the TPL, we do still get phone calls from within the UK - apparently they go through the BT phone book. One good reason to go ex directory I suppose.

I'm also suspicious of some web sites which want a phone no. If it insists, I tend to put the appropriate number of 000

good evening everybody.just wanted to say some years ago we reg with the tpf but were still getting calls re surveys etc. i ran to complain and was told the tpf only stops calls that are tring to sell you something. ie double glazing, insurance, loans etc.

if a company was only doing a survey with no other intention, i could not stop them tel as they were not breaking any rules. i still get survey calls even though i ask them not to call again but they still do. not sure other than ex dir what i can do?

A couple of months ago we were getting loads of call. We were registered. I went in to re-register and was told we were already registered. Strangely since then the number of calls have fallen.

merlin, i am afraid i am far too polite to say that. perhaps my new year resolution should be, i will not be so nice to people that annoy me.

but that really goes against my personality.

my mil says get a whisltle and blow it hard next time a nuisance caller rings, bet they dont ring back. strangley over xmas and new year the tel has been extra quiet! dont speak to soon eh?

When i went to register the new call i found we are no longer registered but we havent changed our number or telephone supplier. I read on the site that due to alterations to the site some numbers would need registering and I did this and it didnt come up that we were already registered , It was some years ago that I did the original registration after hubby was getting nuisance texts on his mobile offering him "services" which as a retired happily married man he was very put out about lol
now he retired in 1998 so it was some time ago i registered .
